Alec is an enthusiastic supporter of the Patron of Reading scheme, which pairs schools with children’s authors, storytellers, poets and illustrators, to raise the profile of reading for pleasure with pupils, parents and staff.

Alec will be making visits to his POR schools during the year, and between those visits he’ll be offering the schools support such as: blogging to children; writing newsletters for parents; encouraging children to join the Summer Reading Challenge; donating books; swapping stories; and lots more. He’ll also be showcasing the children’s comments and work on this website, so keep coming back here to check what’s new!

From 2015-2017, Alec was patron of reading for St Mary’s Primary in Cullercoats, and he is currently patron of reading at three primary schools:

• St Peter and St Paul CE Primary School, Scunthorpe
• Tinsley Meadows Primary Academy, Sheffield
• Wembrook Primary School, Nuneaton
